The Spirit in the Mountain Showed Up

Living with the Master

We had been hiking up the gravel path for some time now, Master was in front leading the pilgrims. As we turned a corner the ascent levelled out and we saw a few benches to sit on. Perfect!

We put down our day packs and sat back to admire the rugged mountain peaks. You could see the wooden houses of the village that were adorned with geraniums now minusculed in the valley below. 

Master was taking in the scenery, soaking up the magnificent views when suddenly his eyes locked on something. He stared for a long time, then in a whisper leaned into me and said “Can you see the spirit in the mountain?”

You just never know what Master will say next. Honestly, it could be “Can I please have a banana?” or “Do you see the spirit in the mountain?” It’s part of the magic of living with him. 

“Spirit in the mountain!?!” I certainly was not expecting that! I craned my head to see where he was pointing.

“There are her eyes, can you see?”

It took a few seconds but quickly I saw her. There was a face in the mountain, sure enough. She had quite feline features with bright, all-seeing eyes and high cheekbones. Master saw in her something akin to a Tibetan Goddess.

This may have been the first time Master saw her face, but this was not the first time he had met this spirit in the mountain.

A little over a year before this we were walking the same pilgrimage path. It was so beautiful and seeing that many people passed this way every year, Master had decided to infuse into it. From the exact same spot we were now sitting, he asked the spirit to cleanse and heal all those who passed by. 

Master was retelling this story to those on the pilgrimage and as he spoke the most amazing things started to happen. 

A single beam of sunlight parted through the overcast sky and shone directly onto the mountain spirit’s face. Nowhere else, just her face. 

“Look!” Master exclaimed. 

We stood in awe, unable to believe our eyes as the sun began to melt the snow of her eyes, creating what appeared to be tears that rolled down her cheeks.

This really moved Master, I could tell. “She is shedding tears because we recognise and love her. So many people don’t see her and just keep walking past.” 

As Master saw her tears, compassion welled in his heart. She had taken on the burdens of so many people just as Master had asked her to do that now she was heavy from the weight of it. We gathered around Master as he sent his love and healing energy to her, lifting her sorrows and giving her full strength back.

“There,” he said. “She is clear now.”

I will never forget those precious moments witnessing the heartfelt communication between the spirit of the mountain and Master. Not least because it was such an incredible thing to witness, but also for the reminder of all the love and support we have in the unseen world. How deeply we are cared for by nature, benevolent beings and ultimately of course by God.

And oh, how it broke my heart in such a beautiful way to see her cry at the thought of being seen for who she truly is after having gone unnoticed for so long. 

How could I see that and not be moved with such gratitude for all our helpers in the unseen world and for all the Masters who are supporting us in myriad ways, ever mysterious but always present.
