A Few Words Can Save A Life
Living with the Master
In the heart of the Alps we were driving along a remote and windy gravel road that barely had enough space for one car, let alone two.
Most of the time the road led us through beautiful pine forests where beams of sunlight would pierce through the trees like messengers from heaven. Now though, the terrain was changing and we were hugging the side of the rocky mountain quite tightly, marvelling at the cliffs and steep drops that started to pop up on our left as we climbed higher and higher over the valley below.
I took care as always, but now I had to be extra careful, so I would slow right down approaching these blind corners just in case.
In the passenger seat, Master shared a technique he saw people use a lot in India. They would toot the horn a few times before going around the corner as an extra precaution to warn oncoming traffic, and he advised me to do that.
We hadn’t come across anyone on this road before, but just after he shared that with me another blind corner came up and I thought “Great, this is a perfect opportunity to give the horn a big toot as he explained.”
All I can say is thank God I did. Thank God.
Unbeknownst to me, a motorcyclist was speeding around the corner from the opposite direction. Who knows, maybe he was daydreaming, maybe he was looking somewhere else but if I had not tooted the horn loudly many times there would have been absolutely no way he would have been able to swerve in time. It was a close call as it was!
It would have been a head-on collision and at the speed he was going I dread to think what could have happened.
Master just shook his head in amazement at the good fortune to have mentioned what he did in time to save the motorcyclist’s life. He does not pretend to see into the future consciously, but the spirit in him, the divine in him, knows everything, senses everything.
He saved a life that day, in a literal sense, but countless other times he saves lives in so many ways, from sadness, from despair, from fear and failure. If only we have the faith to surrender to him and take heed of his words they will lead us to heaven.
