Living with the Master
Master has always said that God is communicating with us all the time. Sometimes, it’s subtle and you have to pay attention lest you miss it. But this is not one of those stories. This time, we got the message loud and clear.
One time, many years ago on an Inner Peace for World Peace tour, we were driving the seemingly endless stretch of highway through country Australia en route from Sydney to Adelaide. We drove together in convoy and at the time I was driving Master up front in the van, while Prema drove the rest of the Sangha in the minibus behind us.
We drove on through the dry countryside and every now and then I would glance in the rear vision mirrors to check that Prema was doing alright.
Master and I had been deep in conversation so I didn’t immediately notice that Prema was no longer in view. When I did check the mirrors, I couldn’t see her behind us, nor any other car for that matter, so I slowed down to help her catch up.
A very short time later I was startled by a huge semi-trailer truck in the rear vision mirror–right on our tail. It seemed to appear out of nowhere and it was going really fast. I knew it could not slow down easily at that speed so… This might not have been the wisest thing to do, but I quickly pulled over on the side of the highway to let it pass me.
As I pulled over in a swirl of dust you could hear the gravel screeching beneath the tyres and a low-lying branch hit our antenna which bent back and hit the roof of our van with a thud.
While Master was calm the whole time I did pick up the vibe that I shouldn’t pull a stunt like that again, but to be honest, I myself was surprised that I did that, it’s not something I would usually do.
Seeing as we were already stopped, Master hopped up on the side foot panel and peered over the roof to see if there were any scratches or damage from the branch. The antenna was still attached and we couldn’t see any damage so he instructed me to keep driving.
Our journey lasted another couple of hours before finally arriving at our destination in Adelaide. We pulled into the driveway and I was just about to turn off the ignition when Master said “Wait! Let’s test the radio first to make sure the antenna still works.”
We always drive without the radio on, so who knew if it was even tuned to a station? Nevertheless, I reached for the volume dial and turned it up loud then back down super quick, just to get an indication if it worked or not.
In those brief few seconds, you’ll never believe what we heard…
“Ooooooh heaven is a place on Earth.”
That’s it. Nothing more, nothing less.
Mannn, you should have seen the looks on our faces!
“Did you just hear that!” Master exclaimed. Our eyes sparkled with wonder and awe like children seeing a magic trick. We could not believe our ears.
That was God, right there on the radio, that was God.
I cannot express the thrill of it all, like God was right there in the van with us, riding with us, encouraging us in our humble mission. God was with us all the way.
My mind still boggles that of all the songs in all the world, the chorus of Belinda Carlisle’s ‘80’s classic “Heaven is a place on Earth” was playing at that exact moment.
When I think of all of the things that needed to fall into place for the one moment to be, I get a head spin.
Losing the minibus, the speeding truck, pulling over and hitting the antenna, the radio being tuned to the perfect station, the DJ deciding to play that song, Master asking to hear the radio (which he has never done before nor since) and me turning the volume up and down for the precise amount of time it took to hear the message: “Heaven is a place on Earth.”
I mean come on, that’s not normal.
God is incredible, don’t you think? All that planning for that one sweet moment.
Master told me God is so happy with how we are helping humanity and that God is here with us, encouraging us and cheering us on. I guess God just wanted to let us know and join in on the fun!
