Burden No More, You Are So Loved
Living with the Master
It is easy to forget sometimes that such a beautiful Master like Sri Avinash was once on the spiritual path going through his own struggles on the journey to happiness, like we all are. In such times, Master Sri Avinash would always turn to the Divine.
He shared a story with us about how one day, early on in his journey, he really didn’t know what to do—he had just quit a job that he didn’t like and only wanted to serve humanity—but how? He still had to pay the bills, pay the rent, but his heart longed for a more purposeful life.
What was there to do? He went out onto the balcony of his apartment and saw a little bird in a nearby tree.
Thinking of the Divine, he prayed to the highest source that pervades the universe and said, “Oh Creator, it would comfort me so much if you would show me that you are here with me. If you are here guiding me, please ask that bird to fly over to my balcony railing, it would bring me so much comfort.”
He waited with a faithful heart, and lo and behold that little bird took flight and came to land right there on his balcony railing.
In that moment, Master Sri Avinash shared how he was filled with such comfort and peace knowing that every step he was taking was being guided by the Source. How, even though he himself could not see a way out of his situation, he did not worry, as he had faith that God did and totally surrendered himself to that.
I contemplated this story he shared and reflected on how many times I had tried to think myself out of all sorts of situations—if only I had had the kind of faith and surrender that my Master has, I really could have saved myself a lot of trouble! As he shares the stories of his life with me I can see the folly of taking the burden of life upon my own shoulders. I can see the folly of failing to reach out to the Supreme Consciousness, to the Master, not only in times of need but in every moment of life.
The more I witness how Master Sri Avinash lives his life the more my own heart bows, following in his footsteps, in humble surrender to the Infinite. And oh—the sweetness of it! As my heart is filled with faith and peace I taste the sweetness of surrender.
