About this Mala:

The word ‘mala’ is a sanskrit word, which means prayer beads, or rosary.

This traditional rosewood mala has 108 beads, plus one extra bead (the ‘Guru bead’), designed for japa meditation (mantra meditation).

It can be worn and used in the traditional way – as a tool for meditation, or it can also be worn as a necklace.

Rosewood belongs to the genus Dalbergiais, and is a traditional wood that has been used throughout the centuries to make japa malas. It is a dark-colored, hard wood that polishes well and is very durable. It is also widely used for all sorts of instruments, carvings and furniture.
